BALAO!

I am WO Denise Whittle, physician assistant, the other half of the medical team with the Canadian Contingent. I am working with Dr. Sean Blundell from Halifax. We have an interesting job here working with the Egyptian medical staff in Camp M"Poko. We have met medical staff from the other contingents: Burkina-Faso, Togo, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Gabon. Our interests are very much the same, we are all working very hard to avoid that malaria bug.

6 weeks are up already, I am finally picking up the African beat. I am getting used to the hot and muggy weather, the cute lizards and the gross bugs. The sights, sounds and smells are unique. I have experienced a bit of the African way of life that is very different from ours. Shopping is just one of the adventures. What will they think back home at the grocery store when I offer $70.00 for a $150.00 cart of groceries?

A big hello to my family and friends, you are always in my thoughts. To my wonderful ever-supportive husband, lots of love, hugs and kisses. I won’t embarrass you at the store.
